"Ben Carnes, a Choctaw from Broken Bow, sold a lithograph by American Indian Movement leader Leonard Peltier and scraped together donations from Facebook friends to pay for his trip to Washington to speak against the (Cobell) settlement".............. READ FULL STORY
My position is that the case was about gaining a full accounting of the mismanaged(stolen) funds from our accounts. It was about losing more land in the process from families who already have little, and the fair market value doesn't include the price of the sovereignty that is attached to the land as our intrinsic right, or a 10 year time limit on use of educational funding.
I'm in opposition to what amounts to a cover up, because if the settlement is approved, then we are told we waive any future claims. The theft of our funds is a violation of the fiduciary trust relationship the government holds. If they cannot be trusted, then the proper remedy would be the dissolution of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and criminal prosecution of those responsible. Once justice is served, then they can talk about what is truly owed to us.
There are 19 of us who are scheduled to speak at this hearing. Just a few out of several hundred thousand who are members of this class action lawsuit, who filed an objection and a notice to speak at the hearing. We all hope to make our voice count for many of those who could not appear or believed they could make a difference. We've been made to feel that there is nothing that can be done to stand in the way of the government and corporations when they want something. The most important thing here is that we just cannot sit back and be silent! Our lands will be there forever, but the measly crumbs they will send out in checks will be gone in just a few days.
I have these three type of Leonard Peltier litho's to select from. I can give two of each, and they sell for $60 on up. They were give to me by the committee a few years ago as a gift and to do with as I needed. If anyone has the frequent flier miles to secure me a plane ticket, I'll be more than happy to send these to you.
You can reach me privately at my email: bencarnes@rocketmail.com or if you want to purchase any that are for sale below, that would also be helpful in covering some of my expenses for this trip. I've reserved two of each for anyone who can get me a flight, which means someone is getting the last two "Medicine Man" litho's I have left.

A Call To Stand For Leonard Peltier
Barack Obama will host the second White House Tribal Nations Conference on December 16, 2010. As part of his campaign, Obama promised to hold yearly meetings with tribes. His first summit took place November 5, 2009. All 565 federally recognized tribes are invited to send one representative to the conference.
We need any and all supporters in D.C. to demonstrate our support of Leonard Peltier on Dec 16th. If it is like last year, we will stand across the street from the Department of the Interior Building from sunrise til 5 pm. It is vital to all our efforts that we have a strong attendance. We know this is short notice... but its the best we've got. We have to be there in large numbers-we can't let them believe we have gone away. Anyone who thinks they can attend, please contact us.

I want to first say thank you--thank you for taking the time and making the commitment to come to this place--but thank you mostly for remembering. Sometimes I sit in this cage and I find myself wondering if anyone really remembers. Many days, remembering is all my mind allows me to do. So, again, thank you. Thank you for bearing witness and being a part of a living memory.
But maybe the most important thing I'd like to say is don't forget. Not ever.
You must be the historians who keep this lesson alive because this story isn't about one day, one event, one person, or even one lifetime. This is a story that goes all the way back to the day a misguided fool, whose name I won't even mention, led his troops in an attack on innocent people at the Greasy Grass, and in the process go himself and over two hundred of his troopers killed. And while the victors on that day had no choice but to defend themselves, we have been the victims of a genocidal revenge that continues until this very moment. So don't forget. Not ever.
It is vengeance that preoccupies the mind of the colonizer. It is this fervor to show us who is boss that led to the massacre at Wounded Knee, the theft of the Black Hills, the establishment of boarding schools, and the criminalization of our languages and traditional ways. It is vengeance that armed the GOON squads, killed our leaders, and surrounded our people at Wounded Knee again in 1973. Revenge is why they today prosecute Indian people for the crimes they know the government committed during their murderous campaigns of the last generation. Vengeance is what killed Joe Stuntz, Anna Mae Aquash, Buddy Lamont and so many others. Getting even is what keeps me in prison. So don't forget. Not ever.
All of these events are bound together, interrelated and interdependent. And quite clearly the lesson they intend for us to learn is don't defend yourselves. Don't stand up for what is right. Don't think for yourselves. Don't choose to be who you are. Don't remember your ancestors. Don't live in defense of the Earth. Don't you do it! Don't even think about it. If you do, this government--this mindset of control--will unleash an attack so vast it will even seek to destroy our genetic memories. So don't forget. Not ever. In days past, some among our people were induced to become "scouts". For whatever reasons, these individuals made possible the treacherous campaigns that resulted in the deaths of countless innocent people. These days--sadly--there are still these types amongst us. The government preys on the weaknesses of these people, inducing them to turn against the rest of us. The government uses this treachery to cover up state sanctioned murder and terrorism. They do this and then tell us that what we remember didn't really happen at all, as though memory or truth is something to be shaped and molded to fit a preconceived outcome. So don't forget. Not ever.
.
We gather today after decades and generations of blood and trauma.
We gather in defiance.
And we remember.
We remember not just one day or one event, because remembering what occurred on June 25 or June 26--or any particular date--is important, but not as important as an understanding of the ongoing campaign of colonization. This is a continuing human drama of slaughter and uncontrollable blood lust and we're still here, engaged in our running defense; praying for balance, peace and justice; and trying to make some sense of it all. Perhaps, in the face of such a menace, the most important thing we can do is remember. So teach your children. Pass this knowledge. Don't forget. Not ever.
Remembering is resisting and, if we remember, then we'll be free one day. Free of their mindset. Free of their theft. Free of their guns and their bombs. Free of their cages. Free to be who we are. And free of their fear. That's the truest freedom of all and true freedom is what this is really all about, not the illusion of freedom they offer us . So don't forget. Not ever.

Ben Carnes is fasting in Lafayette Park across from the White House in solidarity with freedom for Leonard Peltier. Peltier is a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians who has been held as a political prisoner of the Government of the United States of America for over 33 years. Carnes, Choctaw from Oklahoma, speaks on Censored Blog Radio, while fasting for justice for Leonard Peltier outside the White House. Wanbli also joins the show live by phone with more details on Peltier's case and the appeal to Obama for freedom for Peltier. Carnes and Wanbli speak of FBI misconduct, assassination attempts on Peltier, the beating of Peltier in a Pennsylvania prison in 2008 and more than 500 years of genocide for Indian people.
Calling for clemency, Wanbli said Obama promised Peltier's release during his campaign. On today's show, the music is by Keith Secola, with poet Cleo Apache, recorded live at the Havasupai Gathering to Halt Uranium Mining in the Grand Canyon by Earthcycles. Wanbli said, "Carnes is standing there in fast and in prayer for 7 days in the hopes of gaining attention of the President of the United States of America to the plight of Leonard.
During his fast he will not take food or water and he will remain in a prayerful attitude for the next 7 days. Those who make stands to fight injustice such as Ben is doing should have all of our respect and prayers. There are many who make smoke and kick up dust but few who actually have the will to make a stand such as this." Wanbli said Obama could see Carnes if he would look out the window. Carnes began his fast Saturday and will continue to fast through Sept. 12.
Amnesty International has already called for the immediate release of Peltier. CW Gayle, Choctaw, thanked Carnes. "Halito! Ben. Many years ago my friend Rocque Duenas was standing vigil for Leonard in the very place you are. Rocque was a tribal fisherman in Washington, this was 1978. You carry the torch," Gayle said in a message.
Dehydration: Ben Carnes fasting at the White House
From Ben Carnes
I wanted to announce that on Wednesday afternoon, I ceased the liquid portion of my fast due to dehydration. I had taken that as far as I could without endangering my health. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, when I relieved my self, I experienced a burning sensation and around Noon Wednesday, I began to feel as if my kidneys were tightening up.
I made an attempt to contact a physician, but after a period of time with receiving a response. At 2:40 PM (Eastern), I consumed some liquids to hydrate myself. It was a promise I made to Chief Tayac when he visited me at Lafayette Park. He told me that day that I needed to hydrate myself. He said, “You are a Chief! Don’t you dare hit the ground!
There are a lot of people depending upon you to be here for them, and if you die what good would that serve them?” I assured him that when my body told me that I was beginning to have problems, I would take care of myself.Still, I will continue to fast without food until 8:45 AM Saturday. I can assure you that Leonard would appreciate and respect this decision. He has suffered so much pain and loss of allies and relatives, that it would only grieve him had I continued and possibly caused irreparable harm to my health.
My personal prayer will continue on, and I will continue to conduct myself in a honorable and respectful manner befitting my position. I knew that when I decided to publicly announce to that I am a Sun Dance Chief and would be taking this course of action. I would open myself up to criticisms, but that in itself is a sacrifice I willingly accepted. And there has been none, just messages of respect and support. It was never my intention to promote myself, but to show my love and support for my Sun Dance brother.
I had contacted Arvol Looking Horse about the possibility of coming to DC. He could not since he already had an earlier commitment, but he supported what I was doing and that he would support me through his prayers from over there. I am very thankful to have those prayers from the Keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe in this way.
I know that there are many more people who have joined in this fast as an act of solidarity for me and for Leonard. This simple course of action has aroused so much supportive action from around the world. It has done so much more than if we had tried to have everyone come to DC.
Many of you are organizing in your communities and creating so much awareness everywhere and that is so important. The results of this prayer and sacrifice may not be immediately, I feel something is taking place on a larger spiritual level and we will need to keep that in mind in all that we do for Leonard. We know that we will prevail, and it would have been difficult without your support.
Send your cards and letters to Leonard. Let him know how your event went and let him know that we are all here for him and that we will continue to do all we can to bring him home. In the Spirit of Crazy Horse,Ben Carnes

I am JAHnessa and I am praying for Leonard Peltier's release. He is an innocent man that is still in prison even though "the bullets did not match the gun".
Remember the case against OJ Simpson and the million dollar team of Lawyers that said "If it doesn't fit you must acquit"? Well Leonard Peltier did not have a million dollar team on his side and that translated into unequal justice.
